In 1854, Rivail started studying the paranormal phenomena that were investigated by many scientists and philosophers during the second half of 19th century. His pedagogical sense, built along 30 years focused on education, was fundamental in his attempt to elaborate a system of thought in which the spiritual manifestations worked to the social and moral transformation of the humanity. Instead of devoting the rest of his life "to prove scientifically" that some of those phenomena could be caused by the action of spirits, Kardec tried to extract from the possibility embraced by him, the spiritual or medunic hypothesis, something of profit for the humanity. Inspired by this ideal, he dedicated his last years to the structuration of the philosophical whose name was created by him: the Spiritism (fr.
