Pedro Lovera: Tal vez las circunstancias de que este pintor, hijo de Juan Lovera (el Pintor de la Independencia), haya vivido mayormente en el exterior, han servido para oscurecer sus datos biográficos. Se cree que nació en Cumaná en 1814, aunque en un Acta del Senado de la República, por medio del cual se le otorgaba una beca para estudiar en Europa (1853), se habla del "joven Pedro Lovera", lo que hace suponer su nacimiento en fecha posterior. Con anterioridad Lovera había vivido en España, donde estudió en la Academia de San Fernando, Madrid, y fue compañero de curso de Tovar y Tovar (1850). En 1859 concluye la segunda estadía de Lovera en Europa y viaja a Saint Thomas. Ese mismo año se traslada a Puerto Rico y fija su residencia en Mayagüez en 1861. La mayoría de los críticos está de acuerdo en que Lovera continuó viviendo por el resto de su vida en las Antillas, especialmente en Martinica. Algunos afirman que murió en 1896 y otros en 1915.
