English: The Mews, Mitcheldean, Gloucestershire. Originally Wintle's brewery, built in 1868 with sandstone blocks quarried from nearby Wilderness Quarry. In 1930 the Cheltenham Original Brewery Company took over Wintle's and closed the brewery, but continued malting on the site until the 1940s.
In 1941 British Acoustic Films Ltd of London turned the building into a factory for anti-aircraft devices and firefighting equipment. After the Second World War it made cinematographic equipment and from 1948 was run by Rank Precision Industries Ltd. From 1964 it made photocopying machines and became part of the main Rank Xerox factory. In the 1980s Rank reduced the size of the factory. In 1984 the old brewery building was converted and now houses several businesses. |
