Very interesting article, but a pity that it only deals with attitudes to Britishness from within these islands. What about a section on how the rest of the world sees us? Do outsiders know or care about the differences? Or do they see us all as British, or even English? Before anyone cries too foul at the suggestion that these differences matter less to outsiders, stop to ask how many of us would instinctively object if we heard someone being described as "Belgian". Probably not many. But here's a quote from the French Wikipedia:

Pour d'autres, la « belgitude » est un concept totalement artificiel, un sophisme, une « invention bruxelloise », créé a posteriori pour tenter de combler le manque flagrant d’unité culturelle en Belgique.

For others, Belgianness is a totally artifical concept, a sophism, an invention of Brussels, created a posteriori to try to fill the fragrant lack of cultural unity in Belgium.

Cytuno. Taswn i wedi cael punt am bob tro dwi wedi gorfod esbonio nad yw Cymru'n rhan o Loegr buaswn yn gyffyrddus iawn fy myd erbyn hyn! Yr anawster yw cael ffynonellau. Ar y we efallai?
