Avonbridge
golyguThank you for your edit to Avonbridge. However, I've reverted it. You may be right about Abhainne/Aibhne, but have you read the footnote that goes with the Gaelic name? It says that the place isn't included by Ainmean-Àite na h-Alba but that Drochaid Abhainne is the name used in Uicipeid. Your edit stops the footnote from making sense, and you don't give a source for your version. Until I see some evidence that Uicipeid is wrong, I'm going to go along with them. I've done a lot of cleaning up of spurious Gaelic place names here, so I'm prepared to believe that you may be right, but we need authoritative sources. Craigysgafn (sgwrs) 23:59, 2 Mawrth 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for your work. It turns out i was wrong too.
- Abhainne is not a word. The entry in Am Faclair Beag is:
- abhainn /a.ɪNʲ/
- boir. feminine gin. genitive aibhne iol. plural aibhnichean
- river, stream
- However, Avonbridge is not, as i said, Drochaid Aibhne (River's Bridge) , but Drochaid na h-Aibhne (The River's Bridge) in analogy with Avonbridge, Stirlingshire Drochaid na h-Aibhne
- i hope this is a sufficient source
- i guess now I've to fix all the other wiki's to Drochaid na h-Aibhe, oops Neach-aramach (sgwrs) 00:49, 3 Mawrth 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks about the heads-up on Am Faclair Beag. In fact it includes Avonbridge as a placename.
- Drochaid na h-Aibhne
- ainm-àite
- Avonbridge (Stirlg)
- Admittedly the location is Stirling rather than Falkirk, although I can't locate an Avonbridge in Stirling. Anyway, this is a good enough source to be going on with. I'll fix up the article when I have a moment, and check other dubious ones against Am Faclair Beag. Craigysgafn (sgwrs) 09:53, 3 Mawrth 2023 (UTC)
