Disgrifiad
English: Memorial to the Tithe Martyrs of Llangwm The date, 27th May 1887; the setting, the Tithe riots - large mobs of increasingly desperate men & women against an intransigent Ecclesiastical Commission.

"At Pont-y-Glyn, there is a sheer drop of about 60 feet to the rocks and the river below. Some of the now frenzied mob urged the men holding the Ecclesiastical Commission auctioneer, Joseph ap Mwrog, to throw him over, others wanted him dangled from the bridge by his feet until he promised to comply with their demands. Thomas Thomas, William Williams and other leaders among the anti-tithers movement attempted to protect Joseph & valuer Edward Vaughan, and restrain the crowd from further violence. Thomas Thomas, the postmaster at Ty Nant, negiotiated with the crowd and Joseph ap Mwrog was eventually allowed to speak provided that he should go on his knees, beg for mercy and promise never to visit Llangwm for such a purpose again. The crowd insisted that he must provide the promise in writing. Someone handed Joseph a scrap of paper and Thomas Thomas gave a him a pencil. On the paper which was signed and handed to Thomas Thomas were the words, “We hereby promise not to come on this business again in any part of England or Wales, to sell for tithes.” E. J. Roberts. Wellington Chambers, Rhyl; Edward Vaughan. Baths, Rhyl. As a result of the fracas at Llangwm thirty-one men faced charges of assault and riot and eight were brought to trial at the Ruthin Assizes in February 1888."

[Joseph ap Mwrog failed to keep his promise.]
