Bywyd Cynnar
golyguRoedd Aphra Behn, yn un o'r awduresau cyntaf i ennill ei bywoliaeth drwy ysgrifennu.[1] Fe i ganwyd yn Wye, ger Caergaint, ar 10 Gorffennaf 1640 yn ferch i Bartholomew Johnson ac Elizabeth Denham. Bedyddwyd Aphra, neu Eaffry, ym mis 14 Rhagfyr 1640. Gweithiodd ei mam,Elizabeth Denham, fel nyrs i'r teulu cyfoethog Colepeper a ddaeth Aphra yn rhan o'u teulu estynnedig.
Ym 1663 aeth hi i Swrinam, ar daith i lawr yr afon o'r un enw. Seilir un o'i phrif straeon ar gaethweision y coloni, Oroonoko. Roedd lawer yn amau dilysrwydd y siwrne i ferch ond mae tystiolaeth bellach yn cadarnhau ei thaith.
