- ’’A great immigration of birds at Pwllheli on the night of 17 March 1904. the wind was north east and the night was fine at Pwllheli, but at St Tudwal's the weather was bordering on fog. The men in the quarry on the Gimlet Rock (Carreg yr Imbril [sic]) loading vessels..flares burning lit the up whole place...suddenly the workmen were startled by a flow of birds, descending on the rock...thousands of birds dropped on the quarry in a dying state..ground thickly covered with birds dead or dying ...hovered in a helpless condition a few yards up in the air. Daybreak seashore strewn drowned at sea and washed ashore by tide...snipe, woodcock, starling, blackbird, robin, thrush, curlew...similar fall on St Tudwall's islands’’ [1][2]
