Ganed yng Nghaerlŷr ac addysgwyd yng Ngholeg Comunedol Countesthorpe, lle daeth o'n gitârydd rhythm a chanwr efo dau fand, The Mafia a Tone Deaf yn chwarae cerddoriaeth pwnc a "New Wave". Gadawodd yr ysgol yn 16 oed, ym 1980, a theithiodd Ewrop yn ennill ei fywoliaeth wrth ganu efo gitâr ar y strydoedd.

Ers iddo fo ddechrau mynychu'r clybiau gwerin yn ôl ym Mhrydain, mae o – ar ôl cyfnod byr yn efelychu Bob Dylan a Buffy Sainte Marie - wedi canu caneuon traddodiadol – gan gynnwys y baladau hir o'r gororau rhwng Lloegr ac Yr Alban – ochr yn ochr efo'i ganeuon ei hun. Mae ganddo cariad mawr at ieithoedd, sydd wedi arwain at ei CD 'Casa Abierta' a phellach wedi ysbrydoli ei sioeau un dyn, megis 'A Random History of Rock'n'Roll in Middle English' ac y 'Miller's Tale with Songs of Bob Dylan' yn defnyddio Saesneg o'r cyfnod Chaucer.
