Sylwais eich bod wedi newid rhai o enwau'r gwledydd i sillafiadau gwahanol i'r rhai yn y rhestr Gwledydd y byd, a rhai o'r rheiny ddim yng Ngeiriadur yr Academi, megis Iwganda. Thanks for your message. Please take it as a compliment that I didn't guess from the quality of your contributions that you would have any difficulty understanding my note! To confirm to you that you got the gist of it this is roughly what I said:

Thank you for all your work on the countries. I noticed that you had used some spellings different to the spellings on Gwledydd y byd, some of them not from The Welsh Academy English – Welsh Dictionary (Geiriadur yr Academi). This goes against the guideline on Arddull and Gwledydd y byd pages. Since it appears that you want to change the recommendation can you start a discussion on y Caffi so that others can contribute. In fact quite a few of the guidelines need fresh discussion and I hope to start discussions on some when I have the time.

To give you a little history on this some of the original discussions on naming articles (Kings and Queens and countries that I know of) were never written up as recommended conventions as far as I'm aware. When I started contributing to Wicipedia, like you I started changing the names of the countries to follow Geiriadur yr Academi. Then I was told that there was a policy about this although it hadn't been written up anywhere. So I myself wrote the explanations on Arddull and Gwledydd y byd based on what I was told had been previously agreed! This policy is to follow the Atlas Cymraeg Newydd spellings and these are the spellings that should be on the list in Gwledydd y Byd (although I haven't checked this myself – I don't have the latest edition of the Atlas). So please feel free to follow the spellings on Gwledydd y byd.

Geiriadur yr Academi is the standard English-Welsh dictionary first published in 1995. There is apparently a new edition due out this month at £45. Geiriadur Prifysgol Cymru is a Welsh literary dictionary which is even bigger and much more expensive, based on the style of the Oxford English Dictionary, and like the OED it is an ongoing project. These are the two most comprehensive modern Welsh dictionaries available. Since you are living in Australia access to grammars, dictionaries, etc may be even more of a problem for you than for those of us living in Wales. Please feel free to consult me or the Wicipedia community on Wicipedia:Cymorth iaith. (On the other hand please don't feel that you have to consult before venturing a contribution – as you know mistakes can always be corrected later.)

As for the map in the article Affrica, that's a whole new problem! Thank you for pointing out the inconsistency. I will contact Marnanel about this – I don't relish learning about maps myself just yet! Best wishes. Lloffiwr 15:15, 18 Tachwedd 2006 (UTC)

Dim problem Rob. Better to make a few mistakes than not contribute - it's the only way to learn. We're embarassingly short of articles on Australia, as I'm sure you've noticed, so feel free to create some. Even if it's only a sentence or two plus map/photo it's a help. If you can find the corresponding en.wikipedia page and put the interwiki in it makes it a lot easier for me or somebody else to take a quick look and maybe add a paragraph or two.
