copaon yr Alban

golygu

Hi Robin; took your advise and seperated each article into two Sections only. I've also managed to use the tool you mentioned for batch conversion of OS to Geos on the Round Cairn articles: Defnyddiwr:Llywelyn2000/Carnedd gron - look at the edit page! They're ready to copy / paste by Breckenheimer, unless you suggest an improvement? By the way, the Batch Converter worked fine first time! Great teacher! Diolch. The eye of a hawk

golygu

Hi Robin. I've requested a bot to add coordinates to all 700 Welsh peaks on these two lists. The discussion on how to do this appeared here. Can you please keep an eye on this as we will also need to request similar additions to the Scottish peaks. Having a locator map will make such a difference. Many thanks. Preparing here for a bot: many thanks Robin. The maps will make a difference. Diolch. Llywelyn2000 (sgwrs) 04:27, 2 Gorffennaf 2012 (UTC)Ateb

X Y Coordinates in the Scottish Peaks over 610m

golygu

Hi Robin. Any chance you can have a look at X Y Coordinates in the Scottish Peaks over 610m please? All the (2,000) articles include the OS coordinates, but I'd like to also include the XY coordinates in the Infobox. Or should I request a bot for this? Or (preferably) can you request a bot on our behalf? Thanks and diolch, Llywelyn2000 (sgwrs) 11:50, 5 Medi 2012 (UTC)Ateb

Good to hear from you Llywelyn. I am guessing you mean the Latitude and Longitude Coordinates (XY generally means the all numeric versions of OG grid refs, as used by streetmap). I have never had any dealings with bots. Can a bot work through the list of mountains, copy the coords from the list, and then paste it into the individual articles? I also don't know how the process of requesting one works.
I am spending a lot of time trying to get the lists of english SSSIs complete, so that I can tackle the welsh ones. Following recent discussions at [1], the en.welsh lists will be organised by Unitary Authority, as that is what CCW does. (Old Area of Search list pages will explain where to find the various lists). I would be quite interested in seeing how these could be used on cy as well - which may involve some work on the names used. Some names are listed bilingually, but where the CCW name is only in English, would that be acceptable on the cy list? RobinLeicester (sgwrs) 17:14, 5 Medi 2012 (UTC)Ateb
I have the same problem with the Cadw database (Graded buildings); Cadw, typically, very often ignores the Welsh language, and their database is monolingual English. We can translate obvious names such as names of towns and villages, but roads are very difficult in that they don't translate literary e.g. Stryd y Gwynt might not be 'Windy Street' in English; it could easily be 'Victoria St'. Back to your question. The following SSI comes from their (monolingual) database: "FENN'S, WHIXALL, BETTISFIELD, WEM AND CADNEY MOSSES SSSI". Another example is "JEFFREYSTON PASTURES SSSI". The names of the SSSIs would become the titles of articles; do we leave it in English or leave the article out? A third option would be to attempt to find out through maps - which are often in English! I think we need the community's opinion on this Robin at the Caffi. Beth yw eich barn? Robin: I've copied the above to the Caffi. Llywelyn2000 (sgwrs) 02:49, 12 Medi 2012 (UTC)Ateb

Welsh peaks beckon.... once again!

golygu

Hi Robin. The Welsh (and Scottish) peaks e did a year or two ago, now seem a little limited, in that when they are opened in Google (both normal and mobile versions) and click on individual pin-points, they do not open the individual articles, but open the main list. Is there a way to reconfigure this, so that the actual peak article is opened? I now run a bot (AWB) which might be capable of changing or adding a line on each page, should that help. Many thanks and diolch. Llywelyn2000 (sgwrs) 15:30, 29 Mai 2013 (UTC)Ateb

Hi Llywelin. Unfortunately I can't see anyway to do that. The best I can offer is that GeoGroup will use refs as anchor points. Each entry in the list would need a ref. Then when you click on the map entry it takes you to the right place in the list - at which point you are only a click away from the page. It would work like this link to Margam Abbey on a comparable list of scheduled monuments. To do this, each entry needs its own ref, which would make a long and probably spectacularly dull reflist, as each ref would be the same, but would achieve the aim, would meet wikipedia ref policies, and could be done with your bot. Does that help? RobinLeicester (sgwrs) 00:24, 2 Mehefin 2013 (UTC)Ateb
Thanks Robin. Can we not use the Group template on individual articles?!!!! At least it would open the article directly? Llywelyn2000 (sgwrs) 05:03, 7 Mehefin 2013 (UTC)Ateb
My understanding of the GeoGroup system (which is very limited) is that each Geogroup kml page only gets its data from the 'calling page', so Geogroup on an individual article page would simply produce a kml map with one point - which would indeed link back to its page. Someone raised exactly the same question on the GeoGroup talk page, which has not had an answer, so I have added my voice to it. RobinLeicester (sgwrs) 20:52, 7 Mehefin 2013 (UTC)Ateb
Diolch Robin. Let me know of any developments. Linking individual pins on Google maps to individual / direct page about that geolocation gives the user of a mobile phone real power of information, not available by any other Welsh website. Llywelyn2000 (sgwrs) 03:57, 8 Mehefin 2013 (UTC)Ateb
