Daearyddwr Cymreig oedd yr Athro Emrys George Bowen, yn fwyaf adnabyddus fel E. G. Bowen (28 Rhagfyr 19008 Tachwedd 1983). Roedd ganddo ddiddordeb arbennig yn naearyddiaeth ffisegol a chymdeithasol Cymru a sefydliadau seintiau cynnar Cymru.

Ganed ef yng Nghaerfyrddin, ac yn 1923 graddiodd mewn daearyddiaeth o Goleg Prifysgol Cymru, Aberystwyth. Bu'n gymrawd ymchwil yn Ysgol Feddygaeth Cymru yng Nghaerdydd ac yna'n olygydd cynorthwyol ar yr Encyclopædia Britannica. Yn 1929, apwyntiwyd ef yn ddarlithydd cynorthwyol yn Aberystwyth. Daeth yn Athro Daeryddiaeth ac Anthropoleg yn 1946, a bu yn y swydd hyd nes iddo ymddeol yn 1968.

Ef oedd ymchwilydd Cecil Prosser cyntaf yr Ysgol Feddygaeth yng Nghaerdydd, ble astudiodd y berthynas rhwng hil a chlefydau'r ysgyfaint. Rhwng 1928 a 1929 ef oedd golygydd cynorthwyol Encyclopædia Britannica cyn iddo gael ei benodi'n ddarlithydd cynorthwyol mewn Anthropoleg ym Mhrifysgol Aberystwyth. Yno yr arhosodd am weddill ei yrfa, gan gynnwys cyfnod yr Ail Ryfel Byd, pan roedd yn darlithio mewn meteoroleg i'r Awyrlu Brenhinol. Bu'n Athro Gregynog yn yr Adran Daearyddiaeth ac Anthropoleg rhwng 1946 a'i ymddeoliad yn 1968.[1]
