golyguGanwyd Ratko Janev ar 30 Mawrth 1939 yn Sveti Vrach, Bwlgaria. Yn ystod ei ieuenctid symudodd i Iwgoslafia, lle graddiodd o Ysgol Uwchradd Skopje ym 1957 ac yna aeth ymlaen i astudio ym Mhrifysgol Belgrade, lle derbyniodd radd PhD ym 1968. O 1965 ymlaen roedd yn aelod cyswllt o'r Sefydliad Niwclear Vinča. O 1986 roedd yn Bennaeth Adran Uned Atomig a Moleciwlaidd yr Asiantaeth Ynni Atomig Rhyngwladol yn Fienna[2]
