Lewis Mumford

Ganwyd Lewis Mumford yn fab anghyfreithlon yn Flushing, Queens, yn Ninas Efrog Newydd. Symudodd gyda'i fam i Manhattan a mynychodd Ysgol Uwchradd Stuyvesant. Astudiodd yng Ngholeg Dinas Efrog Newydd a'r Ysgol Newydd am Ymchwil Cymdeithasol. Yn ystod y Rhyfel Byd Cyntaf, gwasanaethodd yn dechnegydd radio yn Llynges yr Unol Daleithiau. Cafodd swydd yn gyd-olygydd y cylchgrawn Dial yn 1919, ac aeth i Ludain am gyfnod i fod yn olygydd dros dro The Sociological Review. Ysgrifennodd beirniadaeth bensaernïol ar gyfer The New Yorker o 1931 i 1963. Bu farw yn Amenia, Efrog Newydd, yn 94 oed.
