Cynhyrchydd recordiau, trefnydd cerddoriaeth, cyfansoddwr, arweinydd, peiriannydd sain a cherddor o Loegr oedd Syr George Henry Martin CBE (3 Ionawr 1926 – 8 Mawrth 2016). Weithiau mae'n cael ei ddisgrifio fel y "pumed Beatle" gan gyfeirio at ei waith ar bob un o albymau gwreiddiol y Beatles.[1] Cyrhaeddodd 30 o senglau Martin rif un yn siartiau'r Deyrnas Unedig ac aeth 23 i rif un yn yr Unol Daleithiau.

Mynychodd Ysgol Gerdd a Drama y Guildhall rhwng 1947 a 1950, lle'r astudiai'r piano a'r obo. Ar ôl graddio, gweithiodd i adran gerddoriaeth glasurol y BBC, cyn ymuno ag EMI yn 1950. Cynhyrchodd Martin recordiau comedi a nofelti yn y 1950au cynnar, yn gweithio gyda Peter Sellers a Spike Milligan, ymysg eraill.

Ymestynnai gyrfa Martin dros chwe degawd o waith mewn cerddoriaeth, ffilm, teledu a pherfformio byw. Bu hefyd mewn swyddi gweithredol uwch mewn cwmnïau cyfryngol a chyfranodd i ystod eang o achosion da, yn cynnwys ei waith i'r Prince's Trust a ynys Montserrat yn y Caribi.

I gydnabod ei wasanaeth i'r diwydiant cerddoriaeth a diwylliant poblogaidd, fe'i gwnaed yn Farchog Gwyryf yn 1996.

Marwolaeth

Bu farw Martin ar noson 8 Mawrth 2016 yn 90 mlwydd oed.[2][3] Cyhoeddwyd ei farwolaeth gan Ringo Starr ar ei gyfrif Twitter.[4] Cadarnhawyd ei farwolaeth gan lefarydd ar ran Universal Music Group.[5] Nid yw achos ei farwolaeth wedi ei gyhoeddi eto.[6] Mae'n gadael ei wraig o bumdeg mlynedd, Judy Lockhart Smith, a phedwar o blant.[3]

Wrth gyhoeddi ei farwolaeth, dywedodd Starr: "God bless George Martin peace and love to Judy and his family love Ringo and Barbara George will be missed xxx".[4] Ymatebodd Sean Lennon i farwolaeth Martin ar Twitter drwy ddweud: "I'm so gutted I don't have many words".[7]
